Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu hosted an evening tea reception today in honour of Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, who arrived in the Maldives as a special guest for the country's 61st Independence Day celebrations. The reception aims to further strengthen bilateral relations and explore new cooperation avenues between the two nations.

Dr. Khalilur, who is visiting the Maldives from July 25 to 27, was received by Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam and senior officials upon arrival. The visit is described as a "significant milestone" by the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, expected to enhance bilateral cooperation.

During his stay, Dr. Khalilur is scheduled to meet President Muizzu and hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Adam. The discussions will focus on strengthening the Bangladesh-Maldives partnership, reviewing existing cooperation, and exploring new collaboration opportunities.

The two nations will also exchange views on regional and international developments and reaffirm their commitment to continued cooperation in multilateral forums. Bangladesh and the Maldives maintain close relations in trade, employment, tourism, education, health, and people-to-people contacts.

This marks Dr. Khalilur's first official visit to the Maldives since assuming office as Bangladesh's Foreign Minister on February 17 this year. The visit underscores the importance of the bilateral relationship and sets the stage for enhanced cooperation in the future.
