Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton has called for collective actions to combat the adverse effects of climate change. He highlighted that climate change, environmental pollution, and the degradation of natural resources are among the biggest challenges facing the world today. Riton stressed the importance of collaboration between the government, local government institutions, civil society, youth, and the private sector to tackle this crisis effectively.

Green Initiatives in Rajshahi

As part of implementing the Prime Minister's program to plant 25 crore trees in five years, Rajshahi City Corporation has set a target of planting two and a half lakh trees in one year. The ongoing tree sapling plantation program is complemented by initiatives to create afforestation and bird sanctuaries along the Padma River, aiming to boost tourism, employment, and environmental conservation.

Riton also mentioned various other initiatives, including tree plantation on road islands, beautification projects, and street light development, all geared towards making Rajshahi a truly modern, clean, and environment-friendly city. He emphasized that public awareness and participation are crucial for the success of these initiatives.

Youth and Inclusive Policies

During a high-level dialogue organized under the Green Voice project by The Earth Society, Riton called on the young generation to play a more active role in the country's development and environmental protection. The dialogue focused on formulating inclusive policies to combat climate change, ensuring meaningful participation of women and youth in climate decision-making processes, and strengthening effective cooperation among relevant stakeholders.

The event, attended by Executive Director of The Earth Society Anwar Hossain and stakeholders from government and non-government organizations, discussed various aspects of increasing the participation of women and youth in climate policy and decision-making. Riton assured that the Rajshahi City Corporation will continue to support various initiatives for environmental and climate protection in the future.
