In an effort to bolster summer onion production and support local farmers, the government distributed free onion seeds, fertilizer, and polythene sheets to 3,000 farmers in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah today. This initiative aims to provide necessary agricultural incentives to boost local production and help the country achieve self-sufficiency in onion production.

The distribution program took place at the Upazila Agriculture Office premises on a Saturday morning. The event was attended by key officials including Additional Deputy Director (Crops) of the Department of Agricultural Extension Anisuzzaman, who served as the chief guest.

Present at the event were Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Arifuzzaman, Upazila Fisheries Officer Imran Hossain, Upazila Rural Development Officer Mahmudul Hasan, and Assistant Plant Protection Officer Milan Ghosh. Arifuzzaman highlighted that the distribution of agricultural inputs was part of the government's agricultural incentive program and expressed hope that the initiative would positively impact the nation's onion production.

This initiative is a significant step towards achieving self-sufficiency in onion production in Bangladesh. By providing farmers with essential agricultural resources, the government hopes to enhance productivity and ensure a stable supply of onions, which are a staple in the Bangladeshi diet.
