In a significant move to enhance rider safety, foodpanda, the online food and grocery delivery platform, has announced a fully funded 24/7 personal accident insurance coverage for all its active delivery riders in Bangladesh. This marks the first such initiative specifically designed for riders in the country's food delivery sector. Under the new policy, riders will be eligible for Taka 100,000 in the event of accidental death, permanent total disability, or complete loss of sight in both eyes or multiple limbs.
The insurance policy also offers Taka 50,000 for certain permanent partial disabilities, including the loss of sight in one eye or the loss of a single hand or foot, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. The coverage is comprehensive, protecting riders against major injuries from accidents regardless of whether these occur during an order or on personal time. To be eligible, riders must complete at least one delivery in a week.
This initiative follows a partnership agreement signed between foodpanda and Bimafy, Bangladesh's first digital insurance platform. The signing ceremony took place at foodpanda's headquarters in Dhaka, with key figures such as Ambareen Reza, Co-founder and Managing Director of foodpanda Bangladesh, and Zubair B A Siddiky, among others, in attendance.
Mukitur Rahman Khan, Head of Logistics at foodpanda Bangladesh, announced the initiative, emphasizing the company's commitment to building an ecosystem that connects restaurants, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), customers, and riders. "By fully funding personal accident insurance, we hope that our delivery partners can have greater peace of mind, and be assured of 24/7 protection anytime that they are on the road," he said.
The insurance programme is part of pandahearts, foodpanda's rider support programme that focuses on five key areas: safety, well-being, personal development, community, and welfare benefits. Beyond personal accident coverage, foodpanda offers riders a suite of benefits through partner organisations, including discounted healthcare packages and mobile data plans, monthly installment plans for e-bikes, and opportunities for upskilling and participation in community activities such as rider sports tournaments.
