Chattogram Customs has achieved a significant milestone by earning Tk 599.59 crore from the sale of goods through online and public auctions over a period of five and a half years, from January 2021 to June 2026. This impressive figure includes Tk 285.15 crore earned in the last one and a half years alone, marking a substantial increase in auction revenue. The initiative has not only helped clear long-stagnant goods from the Chattogram Port yard but has also made a notable contribution to government revenue.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has played a crucial role in this success by implementing a special initiative to clear long-standing containers. Goods fit for sale were auctioned, while those unsuitable for auction were destroyed. This strategy has effectively streamlined the process and enhanced revenue generation.

According to Chattogram Customs auction records, the year 2021 saw 24 auctions with 1,814 lots sold, generating Tk 115.64 crore. In 2022, 42 auctions were held, resulting in Tk 130.37 crore from the sale of 1,381 lots. The following year, 2023, witnessed 23 auctions selling 632 lots for Tk 41.13 crore. In 2024, 55 auctions sold 511 lots, earning Tk 27.29 crore, while 2025 saw 60 auctions selling 1,040 lots for Tk 127.67 crore.

By June 2026, 45 online and public auctions had been conducted, with 383 lots sold for Tk 157.48 crore. Mohammad Morshed, manager of KM Corporation, which manages auctions for Chattogram Customs, highlighted the record achievement of Tk 285.15 crore earned from auctions between 2025 and June 2026. Abu Sufian, assistant commissioner of Chattogram Customs' Auction Branch, noted that the increase in auction frequency has directly contributed to the rise in revenue. Efforts are ongoing to clear the port yard by disposing of goods not suitable for auction.

The success of these auctions underscores the effectiveness of the NBR's directives and the dedication of the teams involved in managing and executing these sales. The revenue generated not only aids in clearing the port but also provides a vital financial boost to the government, illustrating the broader economic impact of such initiatives.
