A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern Philippines on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred less than three weeks after a major tremor in the same area left more than 80 people dead.
Details of the Earthquake
The USGS reported that the earthquake struck at 7:42 pm local time (1142 GMT) at a depth of 65.7 kilometers (41 miles). The epicenter was located approximately 21 kilometers southwest of Sarangani town on Mindanao island.
No Immediate Tsunami Warnings
Following the earthquake, there were no immediate tsunami warnings issued. The region remains on alert for potential aftershocks and further developments.
Recent Seismic Activity
This recent quake follows a significant tremor that struck the same area earlier, resulting in over 80 fatalities. The southern Philippines is known for its seismic activity due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
