State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury has declared the government's unwavering commitment to eradicate misrule and corruption fostered during the previous Awami League-led regime. Speaking at an introductory and views-exchange meeting of the Bangladesh Chalachithra Shilpi Samity at the FDC auditorium, he asserted that the present government, under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has taken responsibility for eliminating the 'mess' left behind by the past administration.

Commitment to Fair Elections

Yasser Khan Choudhury highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring free and fair elections within artistic associations. He noted that unlike previous elections marred by irregularities, the current government did not interfere, allowing artists to elect their representatives freely. This approach resulted in a controversy-free election, demonstrating the government's respect for democratic processes.

Financial Efficiency and Future Plans

The State Minister also discussed the financial efficiency of the recent FIFA World Cup broadcast by Bangladesh Television (BTV). BTV acquired the broadcasting rights for Taka 470 million and managed to return Taka 440 million to the government treasury, a rare achievement in Bangladesh. He alleged that the previous regime had misappropriated nearly Taka one billion in public funds during the previous World Cup broadcast.

Looking ahead, Yasser Khan Choudhury revealed that the government is considering the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model for film production. Ongoing discussions with the FDC aim to restore the film industry to its former glory, reflecting the government's dedication to reviving the sector.
