This traditional Bengali recipe features Kalai Dal and beef. The ingredients include 1 kg beef, 500g Kalai Dal, 1 cup chopped onions, 1 tbsp ginger paste, 1 tsp garlic paste, 1 tbsp turmeric powder, 1.5 tbsp chili powder, cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, cloves, 1.5 tbsp cumin powder, black peppercorns, 1 tbsp coriander powder, 0.5 tsp nutmeg and mace powder, 1 tbsp mustard oil, 1 tsp garam masala powder, salt to taste, 5-6 green chilies, and 1 tsp mustard paste. The beef is marinated with turmeric, then sautéed with onions and spices before adding the dal and water. Cook until the beef is tender, then finish with garam masala.
