The rooftop garden at 'Sabujh Chaya' in Dhaka's Madhya Badda has produced 5-6 tons of mangoes this year. Managed by Asma Kader and her husband, the garden features 26 varieties of mango trees, including rare and exotic types. This year, 25 out of 26 varieties bore fruit, with one Chiang Mai tree yielding 2 tons alone. Despite some mangoes falling due to their weight, the harvest has been bountiful, with Asma Kader personally overseeing the garden's care.
Varieties and Yield
The garden boasts a diverse collection of mango varieties, such as Amrapali, Himsagar, and the expensive Miyazaki from Japan. The Amrapali variety is currently flourishing, while birds have claimed some of the ripe mangoes. Asma Kader ensures organic care for the trees, using natural fertilizers and manual weed control.
