The conflict, which began with Hamas militants attacking southern Israel on October 7, 2023, has resulted in over 73,300 confirmed deaths in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. The United Nations considers these figures reliable. The war has also seen the taking of 251 hostages, marking the deadliest attack on Israeli soil since its founding in 1948.
