Over 75% of employees in Bangladesh seek sincere support from their employers during difficult moments in life, such as sudden financial stress, health issues, or family crises, according to MetLife Bangladesh's 'Employee Benefit Trends Study (EBTS) 2025'. The research report was released today by MetLife Bangladesh. The report highlights a growing demand for a humane and empathetic work environment in the country, beyond just professional development.
The study found that employees expect employer assistance the most during major life crises. Nearly 43% of surveyed employees cited sudden financial stress or unexpected expenses as the biggest crisis, emphasizing the need for institutional support. About 25% of employees consider mental health issues a major crisis, while 24% cite family care responsibilities and 21% mention severe medical complications as times when employer support is crucial.
An interesting aspect of the survey is that while 72% of employees believe their institutions are caring, only 42% are willing to recommend their employers to others. Analysts suggest this indicates a clear gap between the institutions' written commitments and employees' real experiences.
Employees prioritize visible and meaningful support during real crises rather than just policies. 29% of employees want flexible leave policies, 26% seek reduced work pressure during tough times, and 22% prioritize control over their work schedules.
The report notes that the demand for such a humane work environment is most prominent among young employees. The research also found that ensuring employee welfare is not just a matter of empathy but is also linked to business growth. About 78% of employees reported increased loyalty to their institutions when they received good health and welfare benefits. Institutions that respond empathetically to employees' important life moments can easily gain their trust and improve overall productivity.
At the survey release event, MetLife Bangladesh CEO Ala Ahmad said that today's employees expect their employers to be by their side during life's most important moments, whether it be financial stress, health issues, or family responsibilities. When an institution shows empathy during such times, it builds trust, increases productivity, and strengthens employee loyalty.
