Dhaka Stocks End Higher Amid Volatile Trading Session

Dhaka stocks finished higher after a volatile trading session, driven by renewed buying interest in momentum-driven stocks.

Stocks today closed higher after a volatile trading session, as renewed buying interest in momentum-driven stocks helped the market recover from early losses. The broad-based DSEX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) gained 16.7 points to end at 5,896, up from 5,879 in the previous session.

Volatile Trading Session

Trading remained under pressure for most of the day amid lingering concerns over the market's underlying strength. However, buying interest picked up toward the close, allowing the benchmark index to finish in positive territory. Despite the gain, market activity weakened, with turnover falling 22.3 percent to TK 10.4 billion, compared with TK 13.4 billion in the previous session.

Sectoral Performance

Among the sectors, Textile accounted for the largest share of turnover at 20.6 percent, followed by Pharmaceuticals (12.4 percent) and General Insurance (12.3 percent). Most sectors ended higher, led by Miscellaneous (2.4%), Mutual Fund (2.3%) and Services (1.7%). On the downside, Life Insurance fell 0.8%, while Bank and Cement declined 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively. Out of 395 issues traded, 173 advanced, 157 declined, and 65 remained unchanged.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher, with the CSCX index rising 40.5 points and the CASPI gaining 47.3 points.
