Police have solved a 'clueless' murder case within days of the killing, arresting a suspect and recovering the alleged murder weapon along with valuables believed to have been stolen from the victim's home. The victim, Shahida Akter, was found dead in her apartment near Nagar Bhaban in Donia Rasulpur area under Jatrabari Police Station on July 11. Police said jewellery and other valuables were missing from the flat following the killing. Her daughter, Parveen Akter, subsequently filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station.

Arrest and Recovery

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and Detective Branch (DB) chief Md Shafiqul Islam disclosed the details at a press briefing held at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road on Thursday. He said they identified the suspect through forensic evidence, crime scene analysis and information technology-based investigation. The accused, Faruk, 27, a construction worker who had been employed at a neighbouring apartment, was arrested from Mirhajibagh area on Wednesday afternoon. The DB chief said the suspect allegedly confessed to his involvement during preliminary interrogation. Acting on information obtained from him, investigators recovered a pair of scissors believed to have been used in the killing, along with several items allegedly stolen from the victim's residence, including imitation jewellery, anklets and foreign currency.

Investigation Details

According to the preliminary investigation, Faruk was familiar with the victim's household while working at the adjacent apartment and had observed the family's daily routine. Police allege that he entered the flat when he found an opportunity, fatally attacked Shahida Akter with the scissors and fled with jewellery and other valuables.
