Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called upon the relevant administration and BNP leaders and activists to provide all necessary support to people affected by heavy rainfall and flooding across the country. Throughout Friday, the Prime Minister engaged in discussions with Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), and Civil Surgeons of various flood-hit districts to assess the overall situation.

Coordination and Directives

PM's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman reported that the Prime Minister also spoke with ministers, secretaries, and officials from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, as well as other relevant ministries. The Prime Minister issued necessary directives to ensure that rescue, relief, medical assistance, and rehabilitation efforts are carried out in a more coordinated and effective manner.

State Minister's Role

Ruman stated that the Prime Minister has assigned State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit to coordinate overall operations, including rescue, rehabilitation, and medical services in the flood-affected districts. To address the evolving situation, the state minister will travel to Chattogram on Saturday along with State Minister for Relief M. Iqbal Hossain and other concerned officials.

Special Attention and Security

Officials have informed the Prime Minister that floodwaters have begun receding in several areas. However, the overall situation continues to be closely monitored. The Prime Minister instructed authorities to give special attention to women and children in flood-affected areas, particularly pregnant women. He also directed law enforcement agencies to remain on maximum alert to prevent criminal groups from exploiting the disaster by engaging in theft, robbery, or other unlawful activities.

Essential Supplies and Monitoring

Tarique Rahman directed the authorities to ensure adequate supplies of food, safe drinking water, medical care, and other emergency assistance for those affected, said PM's additional press secretary. Meanwhile, ministers and members of parliament from the greater Chattogram region have been closely monitoring the flood situation from the outset and remain actively involved in relief operations and the delivery of necessary assistance.

Significance and Implications

The Prime Minister's directives highlight the urgency and scale of the flood relief efforts required across Bangladesh. Ensuring coordinated efforts among various government entities and political parties is crucial for effective disaster management. The focus on vulnerable populations such as women and children underscores the humanitarian aspect of the response. Moreover, the emphasis on security measures aims to prevent exploitation and maintain order during the crisis.
