Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presented the National Environment Award 2025 to six recipients at the World Environment Day 2026 ceremony.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today conferred the National Environment Award-2025 on three distinguished individuals and three institutions in recognition of their outstanding contributions to environmental conservation, environmental education and awareness, and environmental research and technological innovation.

Award Recipients Announced

In the individual category, Md Hasmat Ali, Assistant Professor of Alhaj Farhad Ali Memorial Degree College, received the award in the Environmental Conservation and Pollution Control category. Md Monir Hossain got the award in the Environmental Education and Awareness category. Professor Dr Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Professor of the Chemistry Department at Dhaka University, was given the award in the Environmental Research and Technological Innovation category.

Institutional Achievements Recognized

In the institutional category, Classical Handmade Products BD Limited received the award in the Environmental Conservation and Pollution Control category. The Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences of Chattogram University received the award in the Environmental Education and Awareness category, while the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute got the award in the Environmental Research and Technological Innovation category.

Prime Minister's Remarks

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the World Environment Day and Tree Plantation Fair as the chief guest, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to improve Dhaka's ranking as one of the most uninhabitable cities in the world. He highlighted the importance of raising public awareness about environmental issues.

The awards were handed over at the inaugural ceremony of the national programme marking World Environment Day 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo chaired the event. State Minister Shaikh Faridul Islam, Prime Minister's Special Assistant Dr Md Saimum Parvez, and Acting Secretary of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry Dr. Fahmida Khanom also spoke at the ceremony.
