In a significant breakthrough, police have captured Abdur Rashid, the alleged mastermind behind the high-profile Kakon murder case, in Dhaka. The arrest brings a measure of closure to a case that had gripped the district of Netrokona for over a year. Abdur Rashid, 33, was apprehended from the Bashundhara Residential Area following an intensive two-day operation.

Operation Details

The arrest was confirmed by Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun. According to the OC, the operation was meticulously planned and executed under the supervision of Netrokona Superintendent of Police Md. Tarikul Islam. Leading the charge was Inspector (Investigation) Mohammad Habibur Rahman, who, along with his team, tracked down the fugitive.

Abdur Rashid, the son of Hasen Ali from Dapunia Sehra Duari village in Purbadhala upazila, had been evading arrest since the brutal murder of Kakon Mia on August 6, 2025. The victim was attacked by Abdur Rashid, his brother Abdur Rahim, and several relatives, who allegedly used sharp weapons to inflict fatal injuries. Following the incident, a murder case was filed by the victim's brother-in-law, Masud Al Mamun.

Abdur Rashid's capture marks the culmination of a prolonged investigation. Police reports indicate that he had been moving between several cities, frequently changing his mobile SIM cards and handsets to avoid detection. The arrest has been a long-awaited moment for the victim's family and the local community, who have been seeking justice for over a year.

The police team included Second Officer Md. Rafiqul Islam, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Anwar Hossain, Constable Nahid Hasan Khan, and Unarmed ASI Md. Abul Hossain. The team's persistence and strategic planning led to the successful apprehension of the fugitive. Abdur Rashid has been produced before the court with a request for a seven-day police remand.

The Kakon murder case has drawn significant attention due to the heinous nature of the crime and the prolonged evasion by the prime suspect. The successful arrest underscores the dedication of law enforcement agencies in ensuring that justice is served, no matter how long it takes.
