The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country in the next 24 hours. According to a Met office bulletin issued this morning, light to moderately heavy rain, thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind, and lightning flashes are likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.

Heavy Rainfall Expected

The bulletin also warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in different parts of the country. This forecast comes after significant rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours, with Ambagan in Chattogram recording the highest rainfall of 329 millimetres, followed by 249mm in Chattogram and 142mm in Gopalganj.

Temperature Outlook

Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged across the country. Rajshahi recorded the highest temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while Narayanganj recorded today's lowest temperature at 23 degrees Celsius.

Sunrise and Sunset

For Dhaka, the sun will set at 6:50pm today and rise at 5:18am tomorrow.

Why This Matters

Heavy rainfall can lead to flooding in low-lying areas, disrupt daily activities, and cause transportation delays. Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and take necessary precautions to avoid lightning strikes. Farmers may also need to protect their crops from excessive rain. The BMD's forecast helps authorities and the public prepare for potential adverse weather conditions.
