State Minister for Food Md. Abdul Bari announced today that the government has been implementing a series of effective measures to curb food adulteration and ensure safe food for consumers across the country. Speaking in the House, he detailed the initiatives undertaken by the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) from February to May 2026.

Comprehensive Initiatives by BFSA

The BFSA, a statutory body under the Ministry of Food, has been conducting regular market inspections, mobile court drives, and collecting and testing food samples at government-approved laboratories. These efforts are in line with the Safe Food Act, 2013.

Training and Awareness Programs

A total of 3,340 food handlers have been trained on food safety practices. Additionally, the BFSA organized 15 seminars, workshops, and awareness programs, reaching out to 9,400 students at 94 educational institutions. These initiatives aim to raise public awareness about safe food practices.

Extensive Inspections and Testing

BFSA officials inspected 6,444 food establishments and markets. They tested 670 samples at government-approved laboratories, 3,574 samples through mobile laboratories, and 4,938 samples using mini laboratories for instant testing.

Enforcement and Public Awareness

To enforce the law, 171 mobile courts were conducted. Furthermore, 51 courtyard meetings involving 2,390 homemakers were organized. Four television advertisements on food safety were broadcast for a total of 224 minutes on various channels. Twenty-two public awareness notices were published in 69 national newspapers.
