In a coordinated effort, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a special drive in the Hetimganj area under Golapganj upazila of Sylhet. The operation, led by Nayek Md Alamgir Hossain of the Bianibazar Battalion (52 BGB) and SI Md Ibrahim of RAB-9, Sylhet, resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of smuggled Indian goods from a suspicious covered van. The driver fled upon noticing the law enforcement presence. The seized items included 177,630 pieces of various Indian medicines, 100 Indian sarees, and several cosmetic products, with an estimated value of Tk 32,494,050.
The operation was carried out based on a tip-off, prompting the joint patrol team to signal the suspicious van to stop. The vehicle was searched after the driver abandoned it and fled the scene. Among the seized items were 177,630 pieces of various Indian medicines, 100 Indian sarees, 80 pieces of ACNASOFT facewash, 100 bottles of KETODERM shampoo, 29 bottles of GLUSTER serum, 1,290 bottles of CODLI syrup, and 497 bottles of BONZIVA syrup.
The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by Bangladeshi authorities to curb the smuggling of goods across the border. The joint operation between BGB and RAB demonstrates a coordinated approach to tackling illegal trade, which not only undermines local industries but also poses potential health and safety risks to consumers.
