More than 370 drones were launched toward the Moscow region overnight, the Russian capital's mayor said on Saturday, adding that most of them had been shot down. "Since 8:30 pm (1730 GMT), more than 370 drones were flying in the direction of the Moscow region. Most were neutralised by air defence forces at distant approaches. 64 enemy UAVs were destroyed on approach to Moscow," Sergei Sobyanin wrote on the state-backed MAX platform.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by the Russian capital. The use of drones in attacks represents a modern threat that requires sophisticated defence mechanisms. The Russian military has been increasingly focusing on enhancing its air defence capabilities to counter such threats.

Drone attacks have become a significant concern for urban areas globally, with cities investing in advanced detection and neutralization technologies. The ability to swiftly identify and destroy incoming drones is crucial for maintaining public safety and national security. The incident in Moscow underscores the importance of continuous improvement in air defence systems.

The neutralization of most drones before they reached Moscow indicates the effectiveness of the current air defence measures in place. However, the sheer number of drones launched suggests a coordinated effort to overwhelm these defences. This incident may prompt further enhancements to the city's air defence infrastructure.

While the specific origins and motivations behind the drone attack remain unclear, such incidents emphasize the need for international cooperation in combating the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for malicious purposes. The global community must work together to develop comprehensive strategies to address this evolving threat.
