Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former Acting President, former Speaker, BNP Standing Committee Member, and senior lawyer Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar. In a message of condolence, the minister described Sircar as a shining star in the country's political and legal arena and a distinguished expert in constitutional law.
A Life of Service and Distinction
Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, who passed away at 94, was a prominent member of the Supreme Court legal fraternity. He earned immense respect for his contributions to the nation in various capacities, including as Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and Acting President of Bangladesh.
Historic Role in Liberation War
The finance minister recalled Sircar's contributions during the 1971 Liberation War, highlighting his important role in organizing Supreme Court lawyers in support of the country's independence movement.
Political Contributions and Legacy
Amir Khosru further noted that Sircar made significant contributions to national politics as a founding member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a member of the party's Standing Committee. His legacy continues through his family, with his son Barrister Muhammad Nawshad Zamir being elected Member of Parliament from Panchagarh-1 constituency in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

The finance minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members. Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar breathed his last at a private hospital in Dhaka at 4:19 am today. He is survived by one daughter and two sons.
