The Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party has expressed concerns that the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year will further jeopardize the economy. The party claims the budget lacks clear direction for overcoming the current economic crisis.
In a statement on Thursday, AB Party Chairman Majibur Rahman Manju and General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad criticized the budget, stating that its deficit of nearly 2.5 lakh crore taka and total size of 9 lakh 38 thousand crore taka reflect unrealistic aspirations rather than reality.
The leaders accused the budget of ignoring the genuine needs and economic capabilities of the people, presenting a conventional and debt-dependent plan. They also criticized the absence of effective strategies for job creation, investment growth, poverty alleviation, and corruption prevention.
The AB Party warned that increased direct and indirect taxes on the public would exacerbate inflation, raising the cost of essential goods and living expenses, particularly affecting middle and lower-income groups. They also noted that excessive government borrowing would hinder private investment.
The party leaders alleged that the budget continues the trend of concealing the true state of the economy through optimistic statistics, without initiatives to reduce waste, control corruption, or cut unnecessary expenditures. They called for a focus on agriculture, small industries, and technology-driven employment.
The AB Party labeled the budget as anti-people and demanded its reconsideration to establish a sustainable economic foundation through production-oriented investment and strengthened social security.
