In a recent discussion, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon highlighted that the July movement was a collective achievement of all pro-democracy forces, rather than the result of any individual or single political party. The remarks came during a discussion and photo exhibition held at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.
Rumon urged the public to acknowledge the collective efforts that led to the movement's success, stating that history would reject those who claim sole credit. He noted the sacrifices made by prominent figures, including former BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, who endured imprisonment and exile respectively without seeking personal recognition.
The photo exhibition, titled 'Bangladesh in the Face of Bullets, The End of Fascism', was organized by Amra BNP Poribar and the Bangladesh Photo Journalists Association (BPJA). Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon attended the event as the chief guest.
Rumon also praised the role of journalists during the July Mass uprising, recounting instances where journalists risked their lives to help BNP leaders and activists. He emphasized that the nation would remember the journalists' contributions during these challenging times.
The discussion highlighted the unity and resilience of pro-democracy forces, underscoring that the movement was a testament to the collective will of the people. Rumon's comments reflect a broader sentiment that the July movement was not just a political victory but a significant step towards restoring democracy in the country.
