Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain has reaffirmed the government's commitment to eliminating the supply of counterfeit, adulterated, and substandard medicines. Speaking in parliament, he emphasized the government's dedication to strict legal action against offenders.
Nationwide Drives and Inspections
The minister highlighted that the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) is conducting regular field inspections, mobile court operations, and intelligence-based drives with law enforcement assistance. These efforts aim to collect and test medicine samples, and take action against illegal activities.
Legal Measures and Penalties
Sakhawat Husain detailed the legal actions being taken, including fines through mobile courts, license suspensions or cancellations, and the seizure and destruction of illegal medicines. These measures are in accordance with existing laws.
Strengthening Regulatory Framework
The government plans to enhance the DGDA's capabilities by increasing manpower, expanding inspection activities, and improving modern testing laboratories. Additionally, information technology-based monitoring systems will be strengthened to ensure better oversight.
Coordinated Enforcement Efforts
The minister noted that coordinated enforcement drives involving relevant stakeholders and law enforcement agencies will continue. This collaborative approach aims to ensure a comprehensive crackdown on the production and distribution of counterfeit medicines.
Why This Matters
