In an effort to prevent a dengue outbreak, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Gulshan Society have jointly launched a month-long awareness campaign. The initiative was formally inaugurated today at Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan. The campaign will target every educational institution, mosque, neighborhood, and slum area with awareness activities, distribution of banners, posters, and leaflets.
Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat presided over the event, with Secretary General Mojibur Rahman Mridha, Vice President Abdul Majed, DNCC officials, and local residents in attendance. Addressing the gathering, Barrister Omar attributed the 2,700 dengue-related deaths over the past three years to a lack of awareness and irresponsibility.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and called on authorities to take a more responsible role in curbing the dengue outbreak. The campaign's comprehensive approach aims to educate the public on preventive measures and foster a community-wide effort to eliminate breeding sites for the Aedes mosquito, which transmits dengue.
Activities will include regular visits to schools, mosques, and community centers to distribute educational materials and conduct interactive sessions. Additionally, volunteers will visit slum areas to ensure that even the most vulnerable populations receive the necessary information and resources to protect themselves from dengue.
The collaboration between DNCC and Gulshan Society underscores the importance of community involvement in public health initiatives. By engaging multiple stakeholders, the campaign aims to create a sustained impact and reduce the incidence of dengue in the region.
