Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun stressed the importance of cultivating a reading habit to build a knowledge-based society. Speaking as the chief guest at a divisional-level readers' rally and cultural programme held at the Divisional Government Public Library in Boyra, he stated that no one could become truly distinguished without reading books.
The event, organized under the Mobile Library (3rd Revised) Project by the Directorate of Public Libraries in collaboration with the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, aimed to promote reading habits and build a knowledge-based society. The commissioner highlighted various government initiatives to encourage the younger generation to become avid readers and called for concerted efforts to make these initiatives successful.
He emphasized that regular reading is essential for developing competent and skilled citizens. The commissioner urged parents and teachers to inspire children to read books and avoid excessive mobile phone use. He also noted that books enrich knowledge and that developing a habit of buying and reading books would help build a more enlightened nation.
Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Hoore Jannat chaired the programme. Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Project Director Md. Billal Hossain Khan, Director (Joint Secretary) of the Directorate of Public Libraries Mariam Begum, and Senior Librarian of the Divisional Government Public Library Md. Saiful Islam also spoke at the event. The programme was attended by officials, cultural personalities, guardians, teachers, students, and media representatives.
The organisers reported that 76 mobile libraries are currently operating across all 64 districts of the country. The guests distributed prizes among winners of various competitions and visited a mobile book fair featuring five stalls offering books at a 30 percent discount. A four-day book fair is also being held on the library premises.
