Bangladesh and Russia have discussed ways to expand their existing bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on the energy sector. The talks, held in Manila, were led by Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. The meeting aimed to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the two countries through continued engagement.
Reviewing Existing Cooperation
During the bilateral meeting, the foreign ministers reviewed the existing cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia, with a specific emphasis on collaboration in the energy sector. Both sides exchanged views on enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Commitment to Further Cooperation
The meeting saw both sides reaffirming their commitment to further deepen ties. Lavrov congratulated Dr Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The Russian Foreign Minister also welcomed the newly formed Bangladesh-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group, viewing it as a means to institutionalize legislative cooperation between the two nations.
The discussions concluded with an agreement to further strengthen cooperation and advance the bilateral relationship through continued engagement.
