The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) has arrested Farzana Akter Lata Begum, the main accused in the widely publicized child abuse case involving a two-month-old infant in Narsingdi. Lata Begum was apprehended during a raid in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj after evading arrest since a video of the alleged abuse went viral on social media.

Background of the Case

RAB-11 Narsingdi Camp Commander Md Ariful Islam stated that the viral footage showed the infant being seriously injured after Lata Begum allegedly twisted the baby's leg during a family dispute. Following the filing of the case, RAB-11's Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC-3) launched an intelligence-led operation and tracked the suspect through surveillance and information technology. Acting on a tip-off, the elite force arrested Lata Begum on Friday afternoon.

Legal Proceedings and Other Accused

Lata Begum is currently being questioned and will be handed over to Madhabdi Police Station for further legal action. The case was filed on the night of July 14 by Narsingdi Probation Officer Riza Akter, naming Lata Begum, her husband Kawsar Ahmed, and her father Almach Mia as accused. Kawsar Ahmed and Almach Mia have already been sent to jail in connection with the case, while Lata Begum had remained absconding until her arrest.
