Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP, unveiled the plaque of the newly-constructed 'Nazrul Village' in Rajshahi today, calling National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam a unique architect of the Muslim Renaissance. Speaking as the chief guest, Minu highlighted Nazrul's global influence, noting that his composition 'Chol Chol Chol' is performed in about 11 countries, including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and Iran.
The village, built opposite the Rajshahi Central Botanical Garden and Zoo, was initiated by the Rajshahi District Administration to commemorate 'Nazrul Year'. Minu believes the establishment of Nazrul Village will open new avenues for researchers and accelerate local cultural practices. He assured that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the completed project.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam presided over the ceremony, which was attended by senior officials, local political figures, civil society members, and cultural personalities. The Minister also planted a Krishnachura sapling on the premises. An initial fund of Taka 25 lakh has been collected, with Taka 10 to 12 lakh allocated for the construction of 'Nazrul Mancha' [Nazrul Stage].
The village will be open to the public, allowing any group to practice Nazrul's plays, folk theatre, and literature. A 'Nazrul Calendar' has been announced to organize regular programs. Immediate efforts are being made to complete 'Nazrul Mancha' for next month's scheduled events. The initiative aims to spread Nazrul's literature, poetry, and songs among the new generation.
'Nazrul Mancha' and 'Nazrul Corner' are central to this initiative, designed to be the focal points for promoting Nazrul's works. The project reflects a commitment to preserving and propagating the cultural and literary heritage of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
