A memorial meeting and Doa mahfil were held in Tangail to mark the sixth death anniversary of Shahjahan Siraj, a freedom fighter and former minister who read out the manifesto of Bangladesh's independence at a historic rally in 1971. The event was organized by the college authorities at the Rabeya Siraj Academic Building auditorium of Kalihati Shahjahan Siraj College.
Md. Lutfar Rahman Matin, Member of Parliament for the Tangail-4 constituency, attended as the chief guest. He highlighted Siraj's significant contributions to the Six-Point Movement of 1966, the Mass Uprising of 1969, and his role in reading the Declaration of Independence on March 3, 1971, at Paltan Maidan.
Lutfar Rahman prayed for the forgiveness of Siraj's soul and recalled his political life, contributions to the Liberation War, and his role as State Minister for Shipping and Minister for Forests and Environment. The meeting was presided over by Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla, President of the Shahjahan Siraj College Governing Body and daughter of the late leader.
After the meeting, a special doa and munajat were held for Siraj's soul. The event was attended by political leaders, freedom fighters, teachers, students, and distinguished citizens.
Shahjahan Siraj was one of the key founders of the National Socialist Party (JASAD) and later joined the BNP. He was elected as a Member of Parliament five times from the Tangail-4 (Kalihati) constituency. His legacy continues to inspire many in Bangladesh.
