In a concerted effort to fortify border security, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel recently conducted operations that led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of Indian goods. The contraband, valued at approximately Taka 30.063 lakh, was intercepted along various points of the Cumilla-Brahmanbaria border.
Operational Details and Findings
The seizures occurred in border areas of Akhaura and Kasba upazilas in Brahmanbaria and Brahmanpara and Burichang upazilas in Cumilla. The operation was led by Lt Col SM Shariful Islam, commander of Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB). Teams from several Border Observation Posts (BOPs) participated in the drives.
Among the seized items were basmati rice, Red Bull energy drinks, cattle, firecrackers, teak wood, akashmoni wood, sarees, cannabis, and a motorcycle. According to the BGB, these operations are part of ongoing efforts to prevent smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal border crossings.

The interception of such a wide array of goods underscores the persistent challenges in border management. Lt Col Shariful Islam emphasized that the BGB will continue its regular operations and intelligence activities to strengthen border security and address various illicit activities.
