Bangladesh is set to conduct its first-ever Vessel Census 2026 from August 20 to 29 across the country to help build a safe, orderly, and effective inland water transport system. The census will be conducted under the initiative of the Ministry of Shipping with the cooperation of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Speaking at the BBS Auditorium, State Minister for Planning Md. Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, MP, emphasized the importance of reliable data and statistics for formulating appropriate policies and development plans. He instructed census officials to maintain professionalism, transparency, and neutrality in collecting information, warning of strict action against any irregularities.
The census aims to collect comprehensive and reliable information on vessels and related activities, contributing to the development of a safer and more organized inland water transport system. Senior officials from the Ministry of Shipping, Department of Shipping, BBS, and other relevant bodies were present at the inaugural training programme for census coordinators.
