BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today emphasized the ruling party's commitment to further strengthening geopolitical, economic, and commercial relations with China. He noted that the recent visit of Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to China has reinforced bilateral ties. Fakhrul made these remarks at a discussion titled "Long Live Bangladesh-China Friendship" organized by the Bangladesh-China Friendship Association.
Enhanced Bilateral Relations
Fakhrul stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to China has significantly energized bilateral relations. He highlighted that Bangladeshi youths are increasingly engaging with China, building stronger relationships. The BNP has maintained a long-standing relationship with the Communist Party of China, even during the previous regime.
Geopolitical and Economic Interests
Fakhrul explained that the BNP aims to maintain relations with China based on geopolitical interests while also fostering economic and political ties with India and the United States. He stressed that relations between China and Bangladesh are now at a very high level and that Bangladesh seeks China's technological assistance, particularly in providing technical and vocational education for Bangladeshi youth.
Technological and Infrastructural Support
Fakhrul noted that greater Chinese technological support in road and infrastructure construction, solar energy, and green energy development would greatly benefit Bangladesh. He expressed optimism about the BNP's ideological similarities with China and the mutual business relations, including imports and exports between the two countries. Fakhrul also looked to China's leadership as a force against hegemony.
Chinese Ambassador's Remarks
Chinese ambassador Yao Wen expressed China's interest in introducing high-speed rail technology in Bangladesh, potentially connecting Chattogram, Dhaka, and Sylhet. He assured Bangladesh of China's fullest cooperation in the repatriation of the Rohingyas and marked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit as the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations.
