Bangladeshi mountaineer Nurunnahar Nimmi has successfully summited Mount Everest, raising the Bangladesh flag atop the world's highest peak. The Bangladesh Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC) confirmed the news. This marks the first time a Bangladeshi woman has summited Everest in 14 years.
Nimmi, who works as a Principal Officer in the General Banking Division of Pubali Bank PLC, began her journey from Dhaka to Nepal on April 11. She reached Everest Base Camp via Kathmandu and Lukla, gradually acclimatizing to the extreme altitude. The optimal climbing window for Everest is typically between May 15 and 30.
Nimmi left Base Camp on May 17 for the final ascent, reaching Camp 3. On May 22, she attempted to reach Camp 4 but had to descend due to adverse weather. She waited at Camp 2 for favorable conditions, resuming her climb on May 25 when the weather improved. She reached Camp 4 the next day and began her final ascent from there.
Nimmi summited Everest at 5:24 AM Nepal time on May 27, accompanied by a Sherpa from the Eitak Expedition. She is the third Bangladeshi woman to conquer Everest, following Nishat Majumdar and Wasfia Nazreen, who summited in 2012. The first successful Everest expedition was in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.
