Bangladesh Reports Four Additional Child Deaths Linked to Measles Symptoms

The health crisis in Bangladesh worsens as four more children succumb to measles symptoms.

In the past 24 hours, four more children have died exhibiting measles symptoms across Bangladesh, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). During the same period, 773 new cases of measles or measles-like symptoms were reported nationwide. Despite the alarming rise in deaths, the DGHS clarified that no child was confirmed to have died from measles in the last 24 hours. Of the 773 new cases, 74 were laboratory-confirmed as measles, while 699 showed similar symptoms.

The ongoing health crisis has seen 689 children die with measles symptoms since March 15, with 95 deaths confirmed to be caused by measles. The cumulative number of suspected measles cases has reached 116,710, including 14,318 laboratory-confirmed cases. Out of the total suspected cases, 99,249 patients have been admitted to hospitals, and 95,529 have been discharged after treatment.

In the latest 24-hour period, 649 children were admitted to hospitals for treatment, while 498 were discharged after recovery. The DGHS continues to monitor the situation closely, urging parents to seek immediate medical attention if their children exhibit any symptoms of measles.

Measles, a highly contagious viral disease, primarily affects children and can lead to severe complications. The recent surge in cases and deaths underscores the need for heightened public awareness and robust vaccination efforts to curb the spread of the disease.

Health authorities are working diligently to manage the outbreak, providing necessary medical care and disseminating information to the public. The DGHS has emphasized the importance of vaccination, urging all eligible children to receive the measles vaccine to protect against the disease.
