In an effort to enhance healthcare services, Chattogram General Hospital is embarking on a phased modernization program. The initiative was announced by MP and Chattogram General Hospital Management Committee Chairman Abu Sufian during the inaugural meeting of the committee at the hospital.

Sufian highlighted the challenges faced by the century-old, 250-bed facility, including a shortage of doctors, staff, and essential equipment, which are inadequate to meet the rising healthcare demands. The hospital's existing infrastructure, despite repairs, is no longer sustainable, necessitating the submission of a proposal for a new hospital building.

The modernization plan includes several key measures: increasing manpower, constructing new buildings, establishing neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), expanding maternity services, and creating separate medical service corners for freedom fighters and July fighters. Additionally, NICU wards will be set up for underprivileged patients.

Vice-Chairman of the Hospital Management Committee, Barrister Shakila Farzana, MP, emphasized the need for a modern facility equipped with advanced medical technologies to address the hospital's current issues. The meeting, moderated by Acting Superintendent and Member Secretary Dr. Mohammad Ekram Hossain, also included discussions on taking action against negligence and irregularities within the hospital.

The committee expressed hope that the modernization efforts would accelerate following the anticipated visit of the Finance Minister. The commitment to improving patient care and ensuring accountability marks a significant step forward in the hospital's journey towards better healthcare services in Chattogram.
