Although I didn't have the opportunity to work with him directly, I was fortunate to receive this song from my dear lyricist Golam Morshed Bhai. This release fulfills a dream of mine. I tried to maintain the essence of Lucky Bhai's original composition. This song is our tribute to him on his birthday.'
Golam Morshed shared his memories with Lucky Akhand, saying, 'I have many memories and songs with Lucky Bhai. We worked together extensively. I would write lyrics and give them to him. He would compose the music and record it on his mobile. There are several unpublished songs that remain with me. Joy Shahriar is a dear artist to me, and I gave him this song at his request. I am very pleased with Joy's work and hope Lucky Bhai's listeners will enjoy it too.'
Lucky Akhand's Musical Journey
Born on June 7, 1956, in a music-loving family in Old Dhaka, Lucky Akhand was introduced to music at a young age by his father, Abdul Ali Akhand. He began his career as a child artist on television and radio from 1963 to 1967. At 13, he won the Pakistan Art Council's award for modern music and, at 14, became a composer for HMV Pakistan. In 1971, at 16, he was appointed as a composer for HMV India.
Lucky Akhand contributed to the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Bangladesh Liberation War. His notable songs from that period include 'Jonmobhumi Bangla Mago Ekti Kotha Shudhai Tomare' and 'Oi Cheye Dekho Pub Akash Fike Holo, Bhor Holo, Bhor Holo Pather Andhar Ar Nai.' After the war, he joined Bangladesh Betar as a music director.
The untimely death of his brother Happy Akhand in 1987 deeply affected Lucky Akhand, causing him to withdraw from music for a long time. He later returned to music and released his first solo album 'Lucky Akhand' in 1984 under the banner of Sargam. He was also a member of the band Happy Touch. His notable songs include 'Ei Nil Monihar,' 'Amay Deko Na,' 'Kabita Podar Prohor Eseche,' 'Jekhane Seemant Tomaar,' 'Maamonia,' 'Bitrishna Jibane Amar,' 'Ki Kore Bolle Tumi,' 'Likhete Pari Na Kono Gan,' and 'Bhalobese Chole Jeyo Na.'
Lucky Akhand was known for his unique compositions, often incorporating humming and shekar techniques. His songs, such as 'Abar El Je Shondha,' 'Ei Nil Monihar,' 'Jekhane Seemant Tomaar,' 'Kabita Podar Prohor Eseche Rater Nirjone,' 'Tumi Ki Dekhech Pahari Jhorna,' and 'Tumi Dakle Kachhe Astam Se To Jantei,' have left a lasting impact on listeners.
His fusion of folk and Western music, particularly his interest in Spanish music, is evident in his compositions. Despite the influence of Western and modern music, Lucky Akhand's original talent remained intact. He composed at least two songs in classical and thumri styles, showcasing his versatility.
