The Cumilla Development Authority (CDA), established to oversee the planned urban development of Cumilla, has unveiled a comprehensive 10-year action plan aimed at transforming the city into a modern megacity. The plan, covering an area of 341 square kilometers, includes initiatives for environmental sustainability, improved civic services, and the creation of a technology-based economy.

In an interview, CDA Chairman Udbatul Bari Abu outlined the authority's roadmap, emphasizing the importance of a long-term master plan for sustainable urban development. The plan includes the construction of ring roads, land redevelopment, reservoir conservation, and the establishment of an IT park.

Abu highlighted the introduction of a One-Stop Service (OSS) to streamline citizen services through a fully digital platform. This initiative aims to reduce corruption, delays, and the influence of middlemen by allowing citizens to apply for permits, submit designs, and pay fees online.

The CDA's jurisdiction extends beyond the Cumilla City Corporation to include Adarsh Sadar Upazila, Sadar Dakshin Upazila, parts of Mainamati and Mokam Union, and the Bagmara area. The authority plans to address traffic congestion with ring roads, decentralize commercial activities, and develop a tourism zone that preserves Cumilla's archaeological heritage.

Chairman Abu stressed the importance of public cooperation and compliance with laws and regulations for the success of the development plan. He expressed optimism about the future, stating that with collective efforts, Cumilla can become a beautiful, livable, and sustainable modern city.
