In a vibrant gathering at the Shibganj Upazila Auditorium, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam underscored Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's unwavering belief in the pivotal role of sports in shaping a healthy, talented, and patriotic generation. Speaking as the chief guest at an exchange of views meeting organized to celebrate the 'Prime Minister's Gold Cup National Football Tournament 2026,' Alam highlighted the government's commitment to sports as a cornerstone of national development.

The tournament, more than just a football competition, represents a nationwide effort to discover and nurture footballing talents from the grassroots level. Alam stressed the importance of providing students across both urban and rural areas with the opportunity to develop their sporting abilities. He noted that the government, under the Prime Minister's guidance, has been dedicated to creating a conducive sporting environment in every upazila, preserving playgrounds, and expanding sports activities to steer young people away from drugs and crime.

Mir Shahe Alam called for the cooperation of educational institutions, teachers, guardians, and all stakeholders to ensure the success of the upcoming Prime Minister's Gold Cup National Football Tournament. He distributed one football to each participating educational institution, symbolizing the government's commitment to grassroots sports development.

The meeting, chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ziaur Rahman, saw participation from various local political, administrative, and educational leaders. Notable speakers included Acting President of Upazila BNP SM Tajul Islam, General Secretary of Upazila BNP Advocate Abdul Ohab, and Convener of the State Minister's Education Advisory Committee Professor Nazrul Islam. The event was a testament to the collective effort required to promote sports at the grassroots level.

As the nation gears up for the Prime Minister's Gold Cup, the initiative reflects a broader vision to harness the potential of young athletes and integrate sports into the fabric of national development.
