The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the prices of jet fuel (Jet A-1) for domestic and international airlines. The new rates, effective from midnight tonight, lower the price for domestic carriers to Tk 130.99 per litre from Tk 150.21, and for international carriers to $0.8556 per litre from $0.9808.
New Rates Effective Immediately
BERC Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Sarkar announced that the new rates will be effective from 12 midnight tonight. The reduction comes as a result of considering the average price of the Platts Rate from June 5 to July 4, 2026.
Determination Process
The new prices were determined following a public hearing held today. The hearing was conducted in accordance with sections 34 (4) and 34 (6) of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003. The BERC took into account the proposal of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and Padma Oil Company Limited (POCL).
Factors Considered
In setting the new prices, the BERC considered the detailed price of the Platts Rate of Jet A-1 fuel from June 5 to July 4. Additionally, the exchange rate of the US dollar in the settlement of the Letter of Credit (LC) of BPC was factored into the decision.
Significance for Airlines
The reduction in jet fuel prices is expected to provide some relief to airlines operating in Bangladesh. Lower fuel costs can lead to reduced operational expenses, potentially allowing airlines to offer more competitive pricing for passengers. This move may also encourage increased air travel, benefiting both domestic and international tourism.
