RAJSHAHI - Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Director General Faruk Wasif today stressed that journalists must continually upgrade their technological skills to adapt to modern journalism's demands and ensure accurate, credible reporting. Speaking at the closing ceremony of a three-day workshop on "AI and Fact Checking" in Rajshahi, he highlighted the growing significance of artificial intelligence (AI) and fact-checking as vital tools for journalism. However, he emphasized the importance of verifying all information before publication.

Faruk Wasif noted that AI and fact-checking should be used efficiently to enhance journalism, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and credibility. He also underscored the need for journalists to improve their technical expertise and professional ethics to combat misinformation, disinformation, and rumors effectively.

Describing journalists as crucial partners of the state and society, the PIB Director General mentioned that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been implementing various programs through PIB to strengthen journalists' professional skills, improve their welfare, and expand their capacity to use modern technologies. He expressed hope that these initiatives would enable journalists to perform their duties with greater professionalism and efficiency.

The PIB chief also stressed the importance of ensuring media freedom, responsibility, and objective reporting, stating that only skilled and technology-aware journalists can contribute meaningfully to building an accountable and democratic society. A total of 40 journalists from various print and electronic media outlets in Rajshahi district participated in the workshop, which covered the application of AI in journalism, fact-checking techniques, ethical use of AI, copyright issues, information privacy, and the responsible use of emerging technologies.

The emphasis on technological proficiency and ethical reporting is crucial for Bangladesh's media landscape, where the rapid evolution of digital platforms and the spread of misinformation pose significant challenges. By equipping journalists with the necessary skills and tools, the country can foster a more informed and responsible media environment.
