A court in Khulna has sentenced a land trader to one year's rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 81.50 lakh in a cheque dishonour case. Judge Md Bellal Hossain of the Joint Metropolitan Second Court in Khulna delivered the verdict against Nasrul Zaman, a land trader and son of Rashid Morol of Char Rupsha in Rupsha upazila. The convict was absent during the pronouncement of the verdict.

According to the prosecution, on November 23, 2022, Nasrul received Tk 81.50 lakh from Kazi Mainur Islam on the promise of purchasing land on his behalf. After failing to deliver the land, Nasrul issued a cheque for Tk 81.50 lakh from his account at Al-Arafah Islami Bank's Gollamari Branch on February 25, 2024. The cheque was dishonoured when it was presented to the bank.

A legal notice was served on the accused through lawyers on March 1, 2024. He received the notice on March 4 but failed to make the payment within the stipulated time. The complainant subsequently filed a cheque dishonour case with the Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Khalishpur on April 22, 2024.
