Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the causes of the severe flooding in southern Chattogram. The flooding, which has affected several hundred thousand people, may be attributed to factors such as railway lines, unplanned constructions, barriers obstructing water flow, and unusually heavy rainfall. The government is committed to implementing necessary measures to mitigate future flood damage after a comprehensive review of all contributing factors.
Following his inspection of the damaged Dolu Canal in the Adhunagar Union of Lohagara Upazila, Minister Khasru distributed relief supplies to flood-affected individuals. He emphasized that rehabilitation initiatives are being carried out concurrently. Tin sheets are being supplied to those whose homes have been damaged, and farmers will receive seeds, fertilizers, and other essential agricultural supplies to facilitate a swift return to farming.
The floods have also damaged numerous roads, and the Local Government Department has been tasked with evaluating the extent of the damage. Repair work will commence promptly following this assessment. The government has already supplied rice to 40,000 families, dry food items and pulses to 75,000 families, and distributed cooked meals to 40,000 families.
