LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized the necessity of increasing citizen awareness about cleanliness to ensure Dhaka remains a clean and livable city. Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled "City Waste Management: Everyone's Responsibility- Mine and Yours," organized by the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Fakhrul highlighted that a clean city requires not only the efforts of city corporations but also the active participation and responsible behavior of citizens.

Importance of Citizen Participation

Fakhrul noted that Dhaka, being the epicenter of Bangladesh's economic activities, faces complex challenges due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and unplanned expansion. He stressed that building citizen awareness and a sense of responsibility is crucial in addressing these challenges. "Children must be taught about cleanliness, environmental conservation, and civic responsibility from an early age. For this, awareness-building activities need to be strengthened starting from primary schools," he added.

Government Initiatives and Future Plans

The Minister also mentioned that a permanent solution to Dhaka's problems is not possible without the coordinated efforts of various organizations involved in city management. He discussed ongoing government initiatives to restore rivers, such as the Turag River, and emphasized the importance of these water bodies for the city's sustainable future. "Existence and sustainable future of Dhaka city largely depend on the rivers surrounding it," he said, adding that the government is committed to building Dhaka as a clean, green, and livable city.
