The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has significantly ramped up its anti-crime efforts, resulting in the arrest of 71 individuals across various parts of the city. These arrests were made in separate operations conducted in the Tejgaon Division, Mugda, and Adabar over the last two days.

Tejgaon Division Leads Arrests

The largest operation was carried out by the Tejgaon Division, where police arrested 54 people during coordinated raids in crime-prone areas on Wednesday. According to a DMP statement, these arrestees were held on various criminal charges.

The breakdown of arrests in the Tejgaon Division is as follows: 25 by Mohammadpur Police Station, 10 by Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, 6 by Tejgaon Police Station, 5 by Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, and 4 each by Adabar and Hatirjheel police stations.

Mugda and Adabar Operations

In a separate special drive on Thursday, Mugda Police Station arrested 10 individuals from different crime-prone locations within its jurisdiction on allegations of involvement in various criminal activities.

Meanwhile, Adabar Police Station foiled an alleged robbery attempt by arresting seven members of an organized robbery gang during a raid in the Shekhertek area on Wednesday night. Police acted on confidential information that a group of armed suspects was preparing to commit robbery near the slope of a bridge on Road No. 7 in Shekhertek.

Weapons Seized, Legal Proceedings

During the operation in Adabar, police recovered a cache of sharp weapons, including three machetes, a steel knife, an axe, and an iron crowbar. According to investigators, the suspects admitted during preliminary interrogation that they had gathered to commit robbery.

Police also found that several of the arrested individuals had previous criminal records. A case has been filed under the Arms Act in connection with the incident. All those arrested in the three operations have been produced before the competent courts for further legal proceedings, police said.

Significance and Implications

These operations highlight the DMP's commitment to enhancing public safety and reducing criminal activities in Dhaka. The arrests and seizures of weapons are crucial steps in disrupting criminal networks and ensuring community security.
