State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid has unveiled a plan to elevate the 47-kilometer railway line from Chattogram to Dohazari by five feet. This initiative aims to permanently address the water logging issues affecting the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar railway line. Rashid shared this information with reporters at the Chattogram Railway Station following an inspection of the waterlogged railway line in the Sholashahar area.

Project Details and Objectives

The project is currently in the tendering phase. Rashid expressed optimism about the commencement of work soon, stating that the successful implementation of this project would bring an end to the long-standing hardships experienced by the residents of this region. The primary objective is to ensure normal train movement even during heavy rainfall, thereby improving passenger experience and safety.

Temporary Suspension of Train Services

In light of the current water logging situation, the State Minister has decided to temporarily halt train services on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route. 'In certain locations, water has accumulated to knee depth. To prevent significant accidents, we have decided to temporarily halt train services on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route,' Rashid noted. These services will remain suspended until the water levels decrease.

Refunds and Resumption of Services

Passengers who have pre-purchased tickets will receive refunds in accordance with the established regulations. Train operations on this route will recommence once the rainfall diminishes and conditions return to normal, Rashid added. This measure is intended to ensure the safety and convenience of passengers.

Significance and Future Implications

The elevation of the railway line is expected to have significant implications for the region. By addressing the water logging issue, the project aims to enhance the reliability and safety of train services, ultimately benefiting both passengers and the local economy. The successful completion of this project could serve as a model for similar initiatives in other flood-prone areas.

Community Impact and Expectations

The announcement has been met with optimism by the local community, who have long suffered from the disruptions caused by water logging. The project is expected to bring much-needed relief and improve the overall quality of life for residents. City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, who was present during the inspection, expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to transform the region's transportation infrastructure.
