Tk 24.72cr Assigned for Young Scientists' Research in FY27, Announces Minister

The government has earmarked Taka 24.72 crore for research by young scientists in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The government has allocated Taka 24.72 crore in the 2026-27 fiscal year to support research by young scientists as part of its efforts to promote scientific innovation and technological advancement, Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam told Parliament today. The funding is aimed at fostering scientific research, promoting innovation, and encouraging the development of new technologies across the country.

Supporting Young Scientists

Replying to a starred question from treasury bench member M A Hannan of Brahmanbaria-1 constituency, Minister Anam said the Ministry of Science and Technology has been providing special research grants under its Science and Technology Programme to encourage teachers, researchers, and young scientists from public and private universities as well as researchers from various government and non-government organizations.

The initiative aims to inspire young scientists to pursue cutting-edge research. The ministry also awards the National Science and Technology Fellowship to MS, MPhil, PhD, and postdoctoral students and researchers in science and technology disciplines to promote research, technological innovation, and national socio-economic development.

Previous Year's Allocation

During the 2025-26 fiscal year, a total of 4,282 researchers received Taka 25.45 crore under the National Science and Technology Fellowship Programme. Additionally, the ministry provided Taka 3.97 crore in grants to 358 scientists and researchers under its Research and Development Projects Programme in the current 2025-26 fiscal year.
