Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has rejected the proposal for Rajshahi City Corporation administrator, Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, to visit France. The proposal aimed to explore new energy-saving street lighting technologies. The Prime Minister stressed that only relevant engineers should undertake such visits, not administrators without technical knowledge.
The proposal, submitted by the Local Government Division, included a visit to Signify France's Outdoor Lighting Application Center (OLAC). It was intended for both the administrator and the executive engineer (electricity), ABM Asaduzzaman. However, the Prime Minister clarified that only the engineer should go if necessary.
In a note, the Prime Minister stated that acquiring engineering knowledge would benefit Rajshahi City Corporation. Since the administrator is not an engineer, his visit holds no significance. The Prime Minister also suggested future collaboration with BUET and other engineering universities for innovative projects.
This decision aligns with the Prime Minister's previous rejection of a similar proposal for a US visit by Chittagong City Corporation officials to study mosquito control methods. The Prime Minister believes such innovations can be developed locally.
Additionally, the Prime Minister rejected a proposal to rename Keraniganj Technical Training Center after former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Instead, she encouraged the creation of new institutions rather than renaming existing ones for political reasons.
