DHAKA - Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury today stressed that skilled manpower and a safe working environment are essential for the country's prosperity. Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony for essay and article writing competitions, the minister highlighted the potential of the young generation and the importance of proper guidance.

The event, held at the conference room of Shram Bhaban in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, marked the "Great May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2026". The minister noted that the current government is labour-friendly and that no nation can progress without skilled workers.

Drawing a parallel with China's advancement, Ariful said, "China has advanced significantly in the global arena by utilising its skilled workforce." He also pointed out that while developed countries prioritize workplace safety, this issue has not received adequate attention in Bangladeshi factories.

Addressing labour inspectors, the minister urged them to engage directly with workers, understand their problems, and take necessary measures to ensure a safe working environment. He described human resources as the country's valuable assets and emphasized their effective utilization for overall development.

The minister encouraged the youth to avoid wasting time on social media and instead focus on gaining knowledge and engaging in creative activities. At the end of the ceremony, he handed over certificates and crests to the winning students. Labour and Employment Ministry Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Tarafdar and Additional Secretary Md Abdur Rahim Khan were also present at the event.
