24-Year-Old Man Receives Life Sentence for Child Rape in Chattogram

A court in Chattogram has sentenced a 24-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a fourth-grade girl in 2022.

A Chattogram court has awarded a 24-year-old man a life sentence and an additional six months in default of a Tk 20,000 fine for raping a fourth-grade girl in 2022. Judge Syeda Hafsa Jhuma of the Chattogram Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict in the presence of the convict, Akhtar Sardar. The victim, whose parents are day laborers, was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment following the incident.

Case Details

According to the case details, Akhtar Sardar, son of Md. Sattar Sardar and a resident of Kukraparshi under Jamalganj police station in Sunamganj district, frequently visited the victim's home in the Sadarghat police station area of Chattogram city. On July 2, 2022, he found the child alone at home, raped her, and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident. The victim's father, Monir Hossain, lodged a complaint with Sadarghat Police Station. The charge sheet was submitted to the court on November 21, 2023, and the trial began on April 15, 2024.

Verdict and Sentencing

Public Prosecutor Mahmud-ul Alam Chowdhury Maruf stated that after the delivery of the verdict, the convict was sent to jail.
